Born and Raised in Memphis,TN, Parker J. got his fair share of both southern rap music and northern hip-hop bars. He’s eccentric. He IS vibes. Most of all, he’s....himself. Smoke one to chill. Smoke one to feel. Smoke one while listening to a Parker J. track, and you’ll be rocking until the very end. With edgy bars, playful wordplay, and an assertive flow, he catches your attention and it’s over. You’re hooked. You’re listening. You’re vibing. Keep a look out for his debut EP titled “SESSIONS™️“. Parker J. is the game’s next up.
1) What inspired you to be a part of the music industry?
I’ve always enjoyed writing music. Deep down, I think I’ve always known and accepted that I can’t have a normal life. It’s just not for me. So music has always been a sort of escape from the norm for me. I aspire to be one of the notable greats. One of those artists that you mention when you’re discussing bars or arguing about who’s the best rapper in your barbershop. I’ve always wanted this. So I took a step into music and haven’t looked back since.
2) What are your thoughts on the hip-hop industry at the moment?
The industry is.....different. Bars are treated like something secondary to current artists. I want to change that. Ain’t nothing wrong with what’s out. It’s a different wave, and I’m on my own wave. I think the game could use some more spitters though. Some more flows that actually deserve the hype. Again, no disrespect to any new artists out, y’all doing y’all thing. But I feel the industry needs to get back to REAL music. REAL artistry. Not just a beat, poorly thought out bars and screaming haha
3) Do you enjoy grinding it out independently or would you prefer to be signed to a major label?
Independently. Call me a control freak but I hear the track how I hear it. I don’t think a label would ever be able to do that. Pushing my own music, writing my own bars and recording my own tracks is just a part of the process to me now. I feel like it’s not a real “got it out the mud” story if you ain’t hustled up on it a little. I kinda’ pride myself on my independent status right now. It’s my badge. I own me. A label would be cool, but I got me as of now. And hopefully always.
4) What do you think goes into building a loyal fanbase?
Communication. Interaction. Showing people that you actually are a real person and not some...poster boy. Being a person before an artist. I think honestly just connecting with people like we learned in school or everyday life is the best way. People can peep a fake image, at least I think so. Creating a fan base is all about putting time in to show people what you’re all about. What YOU are all about.
5) What sort of online promo and marketing are you doing to reach your fanbase?
It’s been mostly personal as of now. SoundCloud has been a HUGE help. Different promotional groups on social media has also been helping a bunch. As I said, it’s all about conversation and interaction. I’m a new artist so the base is growing, and everyday it gets betters, but it’s been entirely me, hitting a share button and showing love. Keeping that energy alive across all social media platforms. I’m getting into some online tools like TuneCore and etc.., but I like the current personal experience.
6) If you could collaborate with any well-known artist who would it be?
Ooooooh......J.Cole. I feel like Cole would force some bars out from my very soul cause I would not make myself look stupid in front of Cole haha. Rihanna on a chorus would be the dopest. Something chill. Smoking vibes. 6lack is a planned feature for my future career. I feel his flow. Like it’.....angled.Idk but that shot ROCKS.
7) What are your plans for your next project?
SESSIONS™️ will be every song I’ve written, every story I’ve told, every word I’ve thought while listening to some of the bullshit out right now....and some other stuff. All in all, it’s my thoughts. Each song will be a moment that I kinda’ faded from reality and just started writing. I plan on releasing more videos, getting more active on YouTube and paving out the platform more. Parker J. all 2019. Smoke break?
