Well to start, based on what's published right now Im currently just a producer. I have a song coming out Christmas eve that is made completely by me. All my vocals. I'm from the suburbs of Chicago and i'm currently a student at a university in Florida. I mainly make hip hop, pop/r&b music. I rap, sing, produce, make album artwork (going to start having some help), and write all my own lyrics. I pretty much do everything all by myself. I just have these talents in so many areas, and I want to use them to express my feelings through music with others in hopes that they can gain something out of what I am doing.
1) What inspired you to be a part of the music industry?
When I was younger I always had a passion for music. I would listen to the CDs of various artists that my dad would make and play in his car with his subs. Most of my style and taste comes from him. Starting at not so young of an age of about 11 I started writing lyrics and feeling creativity for beat ideas flow, but I had no outlet. I didn't know how to bring it to life. Fast forward to March of this year, I started using Logic Pro and teaching myself how to everything. As I began to master it I started becoming immensely attached to Logic. When I was bored I would feel myself gravitating towards my laptop to make new music. So I figured, if I enjoy making music so much, why the hell shouldn't I start posting my music online for others to enjoy?
2) What are your thoughts on the hip-hop industry at the moment?
Like I said before I grew up listening to what my dad listened to and for the most part he stays up to date. I can say I have a big attachment to some of the hip hop from the early to mid 2000s like the old-Kanye for example. But the new hip-hop is just a new generation of rappers and artists, and I like where it's heading. It's a mix of tons of different styles and lyrics where people aren't afraid to express their feelings about topics that are usually swept under the rug like recovering from drug addiction and mental illnesses.
3) Do you enjoy grinding it out independently or would you prefer to be signed to a major label?
For now, I want to stick to being independent. I can do everything I want to do without worrying about what the label will think of it. I'm not 100% sure I understand how labels work yet either so I still have a bit to learn in that aspect. Like I said before I do it all by myself for now. Getting signed to a big label I know is good because it gets you good connections, but for now being an artist with a small fan base that doesn't seem very realistic.
4) What do you think goes into building a loyal fanbase?
Really just interacting with your fans. Be consistent. Be creative with what you do, and be yourself. I believe if they are gonna be loyal they will want you to do you. They'll stick with you through thick and thin.
5) What sort of online promo and marketing are you doing to reach your fanbase?
For now i'm just advertising releases on my social media and for my upcoming song release i'm considering doing an instagram promotion to get more exposure. There's probably better ways to expand, but I just haven't quite found them out yet.
6) If you could collaborate with any well-known artist who would it be?
I think either the late XXXTentacion or 6Lack. They are very creative artists and both have a mix of singing and rapping style similar to what I do. They both, especially X, have very versatile styles that can fit in almost any genre. I would love to be able to harmonize with 6Lack on a song or do a verse on an X song.
7) What are your plans for your next project?
For my next project, my first project, it's probably gonna be 6-8 songs. Probably sometime in the summer of 2019 for a release. I need to pick out some beats, but it's hard because I make new stuff every day and end up liking something that I make more than another thing. I keep switching it up. The focus of this project has a similar theme of life I guess I could simply put it. I dream that by the time i'm ready to release i have a strong and loyal fan base. In terms of promotion if the instagram protomotion goes well I may do that again but also expand to other bigger pages for help and things like that. I will probably have some collaborations with a few other artists and producers, but i'm not sure so we will see. Thank you for considering me for whoever is reading this.
