I'm a rapper out of Wilmington, NC, been rapping since 2011. I'm 23 years old, fought cancer twice and won, lost my mother when I was 14 to breast cancer. She taught me how to write poems and played me 50 cent, Dr Dre, 2pac, N.W.A, at a young age. I do music for her, myself, and anybody who needs an escape. The rest of my story you can hear through my lyrics.
1) What inspired you to be a part of the music industry?
I wouldn't say I wanted to get into the "music industry". I started making music with 2 friends in high school. We were depressed kids that clung onto music as an escape. So we wanted to share our stories, our emotion, our whole selves, so that those kids who felt like us knew they weren't alone.
2) What are your thoughts on the hip-hop industry at the moment?
Uhhh...there's good and bad. I was just talking with my wife about how how new age rappers play shows now. It's basically them being their own hype man and only rapping every other bar. I feel like the production, flows, and different styles of the new artists though is good for hip-hop. The thing is though, the market is so over-saturated now. Everybody and their third cousin's mama is a soundcloud rapper which brings us fire and utter trash.
3) Do you enjoy grinding it out independently or would you prefer to be signed to a major label?
I like being independent because as a smaller artist, it makes more sense from a $$ standpoint. Because everyone has opportunities to get their self out there now on social media. It's just about making the right moves at the right time and having the budget to market yourself. Plus I can say and do whatever the fuck I want, whenever the fuck I want.
4) What do you think goes into building a loyal fanbase?
Connection, talking with them, honesty, and just letting them know you appreciate them. No artist can go anywhere without a fan base.
5) What sort of online promo and marketing are you doing to reach your fanbase?
Facebook and YouTube ads mostly. But mostly I got my fan base from shows. Play shows, bring CD's or flash drives with your songs and your info. Network with people. Again, it's all about connecting with the people.
6) If you could collaborate with any well-known artist who would it be?
Lil Skies, Ski Mask The Slump God, A Day To Remember, Todd Snider..I have too many from too many different genres. I could sit here for hours on this one
7) What are your plans for your next project?
CAROLINA NIGHTS! I've been working on this album for a year now. I'm getting the final songs together, going over verses, and i'll start recording it this month. If all goes well, first quarter of next year y'all are gonna get a crazy album.
