My favourite type of music is hip-hop by far. I often listen to artists like lil skies, juice wrld and xxxtentacion. I began making music less than a week ago and already i have over 1000 listens on soundcloud and youtube, as well as over 50 likes. I enjoy the fact that i can use any emotions or hurt ive had to create a song and express my emotion in that way. I like to mix rap and pop together when i make music, just like the artists i have made references to.
1) What inspired you to be a part of the music industry?
I like to the think of music as a way to express emotion. I was inspired by my favourite artists, who use their emotion to create a song and took that into my own way. The fact that lil skies started small as a 13 year old creating music to become one of the greatest hip hop artists on earth is a great motive to me.
2) What are your thoughts on the hip-hop industry at the moment?
Hip hop is definitely my favourite genre of music by far. I like to think of it as a mix of singing and rapping. I like the fact that the tone of the song can change almost suddenly from a hard, strong rap type to a slow, steady type. Hip hop can be used to express emotion as well as making the song danceable. One of my favourite things is that you can make the song mean something, and make people feel anything that you feel - through music.
3) Do you enjoy grinding it out independently or would you prefer to be signed to a major label?
At the moment, I edit my own music using autotune and programmes like vegas pro, but i could really use the help, as it will give me more type to think about the music im creating, as well as giving me independant instrumentals to sing/rap over. At the moment i'm either creating my own beats or using free beats, but i have no beats that flow perfectly with the songs i want to make. I just have to use what i have, so yes i would love to be signed.
4) What do you think goes into building a loyal fanbase?
Building a fan base isnt as easy as it sounds. You have to be able to show your fans that you appreciate their support and them listening to your music. I like to think of fans as a family. They're all together.
Any feedback given from fans, you have to be able to take it to create a more creative, better song and keep them listening to music. Music videos are great too. They can provide a story to a song, as well as keeping the listener intrigued. Part of that is keeping in touch through social media too, making yourself likeable.
5) What sort of online promo and marketing are you doing to reach your fanbase?
As of now, I'm searching on twitter for collaborations and promotions, as well as using social media to advertise any songs i publish on youtube or soundcloud. I have friends share it too, but im still searching for more effective ways to advertise.
6) If you could collaborate with any well-known artist who would it be?
Lil skies because as much as he is a great singer and rapper, i feel like he would be a great person to collab with. The fact that he started from nothing and built his way up to where he is now is inspiring. He seems like a genuine, great person that uses his emotion to create music also and thats what i love about him.
7) What are your plans for your next project?
I'm hoping to release a song called "Night time" soon, but im waiting on a brand new microphone which i should be getting in a couple of weeks or so, as well as creating a music video to provide a storyline for the song.
